I love finding fabulous resources for photography, and I was thrilled to bits to find Seniorologie, a comprehensive blog dedicated to Senior Photography. Since I'm focused on Seniors this month, especially with my recent Senior Rep Sessions I knew I had to share this awesome resource!
They feature different photographers from all around and do great interviews with them about their shooting techniques and their business practices.
They also do special features such as wardrobe ideas and "topic-specific" posts, like this great one on pricing. Since I have been shooting for about three years now and just recently started up my own solo business this summer, it's great to be able to learn from so many different photographers from all around.
I hope to see some of my images grace the Seniorologie blog soon- as a matter of fact I found this great post on submitting images that I just might follow and turn in some of my Senior Rep photos! It would be so awesome to get published!

Senior Rep Feature No. 2: Briana
I've known Briana and her family for a few years now, and I've photographed them all before, so I was so excited when she interviewed to be one of my Senior Reps. I know from experience that she is as close to "model" as you can get and I was not disappointed at her shoot. She is so tall and fit (being a cheerleader) and will mold like play dough when you tell her how to pose- it was like working with a life size barbie! I had a blast at her shoot, and can't wait for her to see all the photos at her ordering session. There are so many swoon worthy ones, it was so hard to pick which ones to showcase, but these were my favorite.
Next up is Mikala- her shoot is next week, so stay tuned for what me & my styling team create for her Senior Portraits!

Senior Rep Feature No. 1: Sam D.
I have to admit, when I was prepping for Sam's shoot I was really focused on how I should direct her to pose and look natural in pictures. She is the "sporty" one after all- rarely wears makeup, almost always dresses in gym clothes, has her hair in a ponytail, and can almost always be seen with a soccer ball in her hand. She is already slated to play soccer at NAU next year, so she's just about as athletic as they come. I figured that a girl that doesn't get dolled up all that often would probably be uncomfortable and maybe a little awkward being photographed, so I was prepared to really work with her to bring out her inner model. I have never been so wrong in my life.
This girl BROUGHT IT. After 5 minutes of shooting I was flipping out inside and trying to stay cool on the outside because I couldn't believe how amazing she looked. Just quick, one word directions was all I gave her and she ran with it. And man, those eyes. I know it's hard to believe, but I did not post process her eyes to pop like that. When I adjusted the light in the images, that is the way they turned out. They are popping like it's hot right about now.
It was so hot, but she was so sweet and tolerant and tried things that I suggested even when they sounded ridiculous. Leah did an incredible job on her hair and makeup- so natural but still dramatic enough to make her features stand out in photos. Also, I love her blue streak that peeks out from the back that Leah did for her.
I have the next Senior Rep shoot this week, and I can't wait to see what we come up with for the other girls!

Back To School Photo Prop Ideas
School is just around the corner friends! All the fun photos you can be taking of the kidlets going to their new classes can be made a little more fun with these creative little props. Try one and you'll get some Back To School photos to cherish forever.
1// books 2// pencils 3// glasses 4// buses 5// book pages 6// globes 7// chalkboards 8// paper airplanes 9// desks 10// letters
{Books} Books are my all time favorite prop to use. Get a stack of vintage books, take a picture of the child reading their favorite book, or have them stand on a stack of Encyclopedias. So many ideas pop into my head with books!
{Pencils} Make vases with yellow pencils as an easy way to incorporate the prop- just hot glue the pencils around a tin can. Also, an oversized paper mache or stuffed pencil could be a great prop as well.
{Glasses} Fake oversize spectacles are the CUTEST on sweet little girls and boys.
{Buses} This one is a bit harder to find in the summer, so you may need to wait until school is back in session before taking bus photos.
{Book Pages} Making a book page backdrop is easy as pie, and is a great neutral to layer other decorations on. I have a book page wall in my living room that I've kept up all year- I just hot glued pages onto sheets of kraft paper I stuck on with push pins.
{Globes} You can find globes at many thrift stores or even Teaching Supply Stores- just one is darling, but layering a bunch in many sizes and colors would be even better.
{Chalkboards} Make your own mini chalkboards and put cute little quotes on them or fun drawings- you can even change the color up by making your own chalkboard paint!
{Paper Airplanes} So fun and hip, you can make paper airplanes out of book paper, yellow notebook paper, or brightly colored construction paper in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
{Desks} I've dreamed of finding a gorgeous vintage desk like the one above, but if you can't find anything vintage, I suggest going to a local school and seeing if they are getting rid of any old desks this year. You may luck out with an avacado green one from the 70's.
{Letters} Craft stores have a wide selection of wood or paper mache letters and numbers that you can paint and use as fun alphabet props. Spell out some words, use "K" for kindergarden, numbers for the other grades, or just go with ABC & 123.
{Apples} Of course, you MUST include the old stand-by for Back To School- apples. There are apples in a lot of these pictures, so be sure to try and take it in a unique direction; maybe get an entire bushel of apples, or sting them into a banner of some sort. Have fun with it!

Branding Client: Wood Creations Furniture
While I feel like nailing down a perfect brand-identity for yourself is a difficult task (what colors do I want, what fonts, what is my logo going to be- AH!), I really enjoy helping other people and small businesses find themselves and what design elements fit their personality. I published Wood Creations Furniture's new website last week, and I am thrilled with the results so far.
Websites should constantly be changing and evolving, and I think that the design and aesthetic we chose for their brand is the perfect facelift for the store and what direction they want to go in for the future. Visit their website & blog to learn more about what they do, the fantastic unfinished furniture they sell, and what kind of awesome deals you can get right now!

A Fabulous At Home Family Shoot in Tempe
I love shooting outdoors. As much as I have learned about studio shooting, nothing beats the gorgeous Arizona lighting at a location full of visual interest and diversity. I had the opportunity of working with the oh so sweet Garnero family, taking their family portraits right in their own backyard and home. From the moment I pulled up to their house, I knew it would be a special session. They live in a tiny little historic district nestled into downtown Tempe, in a home they renovated a couple years ago with a HUGE killer backyard filled with all kinds of treasures. Their children, twins Davie and Niko were two of the smartest, yet friendliest 5th graders I've ever been around. And man, were they just naturals at being photographed. Pam & Ed were as gorgeous of subjects as their kids, and even Frank the Tortise and their chickens joined in the fun. I must admit that this was my very favorite family session to date, and I hope to see more of this lovely family in the future.

A New Reason To Love Being Pregnant
As if getting a sweet little bundle of love wasn't enough, a fresh way to document your pregnancy experience, my Maternity Journey Photography Collections are coming your way this Fall.
I've had such a great response from my own personal Weekly Pregnancy Updates that I've put together a little collection for women who want to have beautiful photos of their own Maternity Journeys, instead of the traditional one time Maternity Session. It's so fun to see your belly grow and why not feel gorgeous at the same time?
The Micro sessions last 15-20 minutes, use some fun photo props {more on that later}, custom digital designs, and are scheduled and paid for in advance to make it easy and convenient and you get lots of different Maternity photos showing your progress. Hospital Birth Stories will also be available, keep an eye out for those as well in October.
